Hiking Group – Train Trip to Sacramento with Lunch & Visit to the Railroad Museum
In honor of the PD Active Hiking/Walking Group’s 90th hike

Trail head: Board the Capitol Corridor Express bound for Sacramento, Train #528 at 10:10 AM. (Roundtrip fare is $ 53 for seniors. Probably best to buy tickets beforehand to insure a seat.)
Trail description:
We’ll have dramatic views of the Bay and Carquinez Strait not seen from I-80. Arriving Sacramento at 11.57 AM we’ll walk to one of the restaurants along the Sacramento river in Old Town for lunch. Then we’ll walk among the shops along the river to the Railroad Museum for an extended visit. The average adult visitor spends 2-3 hours here. Museum hours are 10 AM to 5 PM and admission is $12. Then we’ll board the Capitol Corridor Express bound for Berkeley, train #547 at 5:03 PM. Our return has flexibility with west bound trains earlier at 3:55 PM, and later at 5:55 PM, and 7:55 PM. All of our walking travels are within a half mile of the Sacramento train station.

Driving directions to the Berkeley train station:
From I-80 take University Ave exit and go east on University to 6th St. Turn left and go north one block to Hearst Ave. Turn west and go two blocks to 4th St and look out for Spenger’s Grotto, 1919 4th St. There’s a parking lot across the street from Spengers and the parking is $6 for all day. Park then follow the signs walking to the Amtrak station, about one block. There are also AC transit buses that stop at the station.
